The personal experiences of individuals with psychosis are frequently excluded in the training of clinicians or the body of research about psychosis. The project "Psychosis Outside the Box " addressed this gap by soliciting, compiling, and amplifying the direct accounts of experiences of psychosis. Dr Jones and her collaborator Shannon Pagdon believe by highlighting the range and depth of psychosis-related experiences that, they can inform both clinicians and users of services.
First-person voice includes a group of individuals typically excluded from knowledge generation. When the range and the diversity of psychosis-related experiences are shared, clinicians and students have an opportunity to comprehend the experiences of individuals with psychosis. The experiences of individuals are complex and multilayered; terms such as "hallucinations" cannot do justice to the lived experiences. Psychosis outside the box expands the lexicon to benefit how we communicate different experiences.
