Dr. Eack's research has focused on developing, testing, and implementing psychosocial treatments for young persons and adults with neurodevelopment problems such as schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorders. In the past, clinicians had few interventions other than medication and support to help clients. Thus, the ASCEND program was developed to bridge the gap.
Specifically, Dr. Eack’s work focuses on Cognitive Enhancement Therapy, (CET) which helps individuals to improve their thinking and social understanding., thus improving quality of life. CET is an 18-month treatment program with two parts, focusing on both cognition and social functioning.
The research program ASCEND, directed by Dr. Shaun M. Eack, focuses on psychosocial treatment development and neurodevelopment conditions.
Scientific American highlights Professor Shaun Eack's efforts in modifying a therapy designed for adults with schizophrenia to support individuals with autism.
